We meet once a month for a special Friday night gathering to bring in Shabbat together. It’s a time to unwind and enjoy great company, food, and conversation! Most months, we come together in the home of a community member, but once a season, we gather in a non-apartment venue so that we can welcome more guests to our table. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e7d546fd74f3a2bb4e82d06/1600355614053-XWKD3YRYJPIN07MFDQ18/image-asset.jpeg What We Do | Sephardic Mizrahi Q Network - Arts + Culture Café The SMQN Arts+Culture Café initiative seeks to build a space for creative expression, stimulating discussions on various topics relevant to LGBTQ and Sephardic-Mizrahi life, as well as exploration of Sephardic and Mizrahi cultures and communities. We engage in creative activities like practicing Hebrew and Arabic calligraphy, wine and paint nights, and we invite artists in our community to teach and share their creative pursuits in collaborative salons. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e7d546fd74f3a2bb4e82d06/1600281255304-GXSK59O5DERKXXNKUGR4/SMQN+Bet+Midrash What We Do | Sephardic Mizrahi Q Network - SMQN Bet Midrash The SMQN Bet Midrash (house of study) is an intellectually vibrant space for our community to partake in dynamic and in-depth learning about Sephardic & Mizrahi histories, communities, and texts—all the while, allowing us to bring our full and authentic selves. Some classes are part of a learning series with a particular arc, while others are stand-alone sessions. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e7d546fd74f3a2bb4e82d06/1600281196314-0QYXKJLMRTMLCGN6UULZ/Shabbat+Programming What We Do | Sephardic Mizrahi Q Network - Shabbat Programming Besides our flagship Shabbat dinners, SMQN offers many other Shabbat experiences that allow us to celebrate Mizrahi and Sephardic heritage and our queer identities—including Shabbat lunches, Havdalah Hangouts, egalitarian Kabbalat Shabbat services, and Shabbaton weekend retreats. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e7d546fd74f3a2bb4e82d06/1600355779850-L53BJT4WDN51DV1N0QSM/Chai%2B%2526%2BChat What We Do | Sephardic Mizrahi Q Network - Chai & Chat Chai (“tea” in Persian) & Chat is a monthly talk series highlighting the rich and eclectic stories of different LGBTQ+ Sephardic and Mizrahi Jews. In each episode, we have a lively conversation with one of our community members about their personal, professional and leadership journeys. Grab a cup of tea or coffee and join us! https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e7d546fd74f3a2bb4e82d06/1600356024078-J2DKQSOJBGXX7GXOA0O9/Virtual+Gatherings What We Do | Sephardic Mizrahi Q Network - Virtual Gatherings During the Covid-19 pandemic, SMQN adapted and began offering virtual programming for our community. Our virtual events have allowed us to engage members across the U.S. and around the world. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e7d546fd74f3a2bb4e82d06/1600314774139-8Y6Y69083FB80N3DLATT/Allyship+%26+Bridge+Building What We Do | Sephardic Mizrahi Q Network - Allyship & Bridge Building While the majority of our programming directly supports LGBTQ+ folks, we understand the importance of engaging allies and building partnerships with stakeholders in the broader Sephardic and Jewish community. Thus, we also host more public-facing programming—such as educational seminars on diversity and inclusivity, a support group for Sephardic and Mizrahi family members of LGBTQ+ individuals, and collaborative programs with other non-profit organizations. https://smqn.squarespace.com/contact-us daily 0.75 2022-01-04 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e7d546fd74f3a2bb4e82d06/1604202244051-O4LS2ZXSVKM3M8WFN8QR/Calligraphy.png Contact Us | Sephardic Mizrahi Q Network https://smqn.squarespace.com/press daily 0.75 2026-01-22 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e7d546fd74f3a2bb4e82d06/e32dae96-3475-4cd7-8787-96f1309969ec/Screenshot+%285%29.png Press – Sephardic Mizrahi Q Network - THE FORWARD Finally, A Safe Space for Sephardic and Mizrahi LGBTQ Jews https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e7d546fd74f3a2bb4e82d06/e3e552dd-c90b-41d9-ae8d-6a3754e7ab6c/Screenshot+%288%29.png Press – Sephardic Mizrahi Q Network - JEWCY (published academic anthology) At the Intersection of Sephardic, Mizrahi, and LGBTQ+: The Story of a Community Emerging out of the Margins https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e7d546fd74f3a2bb4e82d06/d3f9ff23-2670-491c-bf56-c30d500afc4d/Screenshot+%282%29.png Press – Sephardic Mizrahi Q Network - JoCI Shabbat as a Place of Belonging: The Inclusive Vision of SMQN https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e7d546fd74f3a2bb4e82d06/1622941404907-5CQMBJZ1Y5F4N5VM82ML/BEAF7E7F-850E-4549-B549-ADAC5604B535.JPG Press – Sephardic Mizrahi Q Network - TABLET MAGAZINE The New Sephardic Generation https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e7d546fd74f3a2bb4e82d06/1600313044999-MU9TZUK744VM6UT17WS2/JTA.png Press – Sephardic Mizrahi Q Network - JEWISH TELEGRAPHIC AGENCY Pride Month isn’t the focus for LGBTQ Jews this year https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5e7d546fd74f3a2bb4e82d06/b922434a-f09e-4725-9e48-2cd1e3914de3/Screenshot+%284%29.png Press – Sephardic Mizrahi Q Network - HEY ALMA I’m a Lesbian Bukharian Jew.
